South Canterbury Cross Country
On Tuesday we had a group of students that represented the Rural Schools at the South Canterbury. They all performed extremely well and showed real HEART. Well done, especially to Carter Brewer who was placed 3rd in the Yr 8 boys.

Officially a Sun Smart School!
The Cancer Society has a brilliant website full of great ideas about keeping your children sunsmart. http://www.sunsmartschools.co.nz/info/sunglasses is a great place to find information about appropriate sunglasses for children.
For those of you new to the school, we are a family friendly, child centred rural primary school for pupils in years 1 to 8 (ages 5 to about 13).
Children attend our school from a wide area in and around the immediate area to the west of Timaru. The school is served by several bus runs two of which serve the edge of Timaru City.
We have between 125 and 148 pupils - the roll varies as new entrants join us during the year.
Ideas For Parents
Helping your child read at home
It’s one of the most common concerns for parents of elementary (primary) school age children. How can I best help my child to read at home? Teachers are asked about this all the time, and reading progress is one of the areas that parents worry about more than any other.
So here are some tips for supporting your child’s development as a reader. Put as many of these things in place as you can, then relax! You’re doing your bit, and your child will respond.
